☞ 5 Thematic Parallel Sessions are to be arranged during 2011 UEA Gwangju Summit

In Parallel Session 1, Energy Efficiency and Climate Change will be discussed.

In this session, solution to climate change will be sought by recognizing energy crisis and advancing to renewable energy economy system. In particular, as energy consumption in buildings is on the rise due to the increasing number of buildings in cities and improvement of quality of citizens' lives, efficient ways to use energy must be found. Additionally, discussion is to be made to draw solutions and take into actions such as hybrid vehicles or electric cars, to manage the difficulties in shortage of fossil fuel and find the opportunity from the times of energy crisis.

In Parallel Session 2, Waste Reduction will be discussed.

In this session, opinions and ideas on reduction of wastes and resource recovery will be exchanged, while existing policies on wastes have focused on the prevention of environmental protection by wastes treatment.

Attempt to reduce wastes will be made by efficient manufacturing and consumption, and generated wastes will be recycled, recovered, and retrieved of its energy. Aggressive ideas on tacking energy/material crisis, climate change, and lack of landfill sites will be talked to make green growth sustainable.

In Parallel Session 3, Smart Green Transportation will be discussed.

Pollutant generated from transportation sector is expected to become worse due to growing number of vehicles run by fossil fuel and traffic congestion in urban area. Greenhouse gas emitted by transportation and logistics accounts for 20% of entire emission in nation level. Therefore, due to the necessity of systematic plans on reducing emission in the field of transportation, this session debates on aggressive schemes to set targets of emission by improving transportation, facilities, and traffic systems.

In Parallel Session 4, Water Demand and Quality Management will be discussed.

IPCC has warned that 1.1~3.2 billions of global populations will suffer from water shortages in 2080 due to climate change. Cities will set by 'Water Utilization Management Plans" to actively respond to damages caused by lack of water such as local drought and climate change. To reduce greenhouse gas emission in water sector, strategies on water saving, using rain water, and reclamation/reuse system will be necessary. As water consumption is on the rise, ideas on saving, re-using, treatment, supply water in households and industry sectors will be exchanged in this session.

In Parallel Session 5, Natural Ecology will be discussed.

To secure urban sustainability, with animals living and energy & water circulating, eco-friendly management is necessary. In this session, practical plans will be suggested to restore natural ecology and to make cities sustainable such as pollutant-free power plants, expansion of urban green park, preservation of wildlife pathway, and prevention of head island effect.
