Purpose and Background

  • GPD is a tool that enables cities and local governments to manage their own Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions by analyzing trend and project emissions, so that they can set their own reduction target and carry out proper reduction projects.
  • GPD is a new model for cities from around the globe to join city-wide efforts to respond to climate change and reduce GHG emissions.
  • GPD is a universal program that can be used in cities with various climatic conditions (temperate, tropical, polar regions, etc.) and economic status (developed, developing, least developed countries, etc.)
  • Globally renowned organizations including UNFCCC, UNEP, the World Bank have contributed to the reliability and applicability of this program by peer (expert) review and verification.
  • Expert training will be prepared to disseminate GPD to UEA member cities

  • - Build globally standardized city-wide GHG inventory
  • - Make baseline scenarios for GHG emission reduction
  • - Make systematic plans for emission reduction and quantitative data collection
  • - Continuously monitor city-wide climate change response project
  • - Conduct feasibility study for the access to global climate-related funds, especially in developing countries
During the summit, participating cities will have opportunities to present their best practices not only in aforementioned sectors but also in any parts of the efforts made to contribute to climate change response.
The UEA Executive Committee will meet during the summit.
On evenings, during dinner, there will be cultural presentations and opportunities to connect will city leaders and decision makers.
Exhibits, city tours and a youth forum are also being organized for the benefit of the summit participants.
